Hiking in Boston

Boston has many great places to have a good old-fashioned hill walk. Spending your day outside is a great use of your weekend leisure time, and a form of exercise. There are also many great photography spots to remember the day for a long time.

Firstly, there is Mass Audubon’s Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. Because of the sanctuary’s size, you are unlikely to meet many people on the trails – the Ipswich River crosses the southern part of the sanctuary, and Mass. Audubon members can rent canoes to explore the marshes.

Next, there is the Acorn Trail at Great Brook Farm State Park. Carlisle’s Acorn Trail offers a surprising feel of being outside the hustle and bustle of Boston, and although not a particular steep hike, it will be difficult even for experienced hikers. This loop takes you through cultivated fields and woodlands, following a narrow and winding path through the forest and up a small hill. There is one main climb into the forest, and the trail can be rocky in places.

Another idea is the Skyline Trail at Blue Hills Reservation. Blue Hills Reservation in Milton is certainly the best destination for hikers looking for a great experience without the hassle of driving for 3 hours to New Hampshire or Maine. It has over 125 miles of trails for all levels, in a setting that is surprisingly rugged and challenging.

About the Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins are Boston’s ice hockey team, competing in the professional Atlantic Division of the NHL’s Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 1924, by the influence of Boston grocery tycoon Charles Adams. Adams chose the name ‘Bruins’ to name the club after the Old English word for ‘brown bear’, reflecting the team’s ferocity and tenacity.

Boston hockey OrrThe Bruins made history in 1958 by fielding the NHL’s first ever black hockey player, Willie O’Ree, who went on to earn 45 caps for the Boston team. The Bruins were also the first team to make use of the Zamboni machine, used for ice resurfacing.

In 1970, the Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues in four games in the Final. Bobby Orr scored the game-winning goal in overtime to clinch the Stanley Cup, involving the stunning photograph above.

It was said of the final: “No one, absolutely no one, could have finished a goal in like manner. For years Orr had been described as someone who was graceful, elegant, powerful, without fear—poetry in motion. All these epithets were captured and immortalized in the photos of the goal that won the 1970 Stanley Cup”.

To the present day, the Bruins enjoy professional success in the NHL, and continue to grow as a team and as a business.

Boston Economy

Boston is in the top 30 most economically powerful cities in the world, the greater metropolitan area having a total economic output of $363bn. The highly prestigious universities and college contribute a lot to this, bringing intelligent workers to the city. It is estimated that this is worth $4.8bn to the city every year.

Boston is home to many high-tech companies, and many venture capital companies. In addition to local companies, tourism also contributes much to the Boston economy. Over 21 million tourists came to Boston in 2011, spending over $8bn. Historically, the city is also a major seaport, which is a huge source of economic strength for many cities in the industrial revolution.

In addition, the wedding industry is worth quite a lot of money, due to the city’s rich history and beautiful surroundings. Many happy couples seek highly professional Boston wedding photographers for this reason.

Boston Traditional Food

In Boston, the local cuisine is much similar to that of the rest of New England, consisting mainly of seafood and dairy. For example, clam chowder and lobster.

Clam chowder is a milk- or cream-based chowder, commonly made with potatoes, onion, and clams. In fact, in 1939 a bill was passed in the Maine legislature making the use of tomatoes in clam chowder illegal. The clam chowder in Boston is apparently ever so slightly thicker than in the rest of New England.

Due to the city of Boston‘s rich ethnic diversity, Chinatown has a variety of Asian restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and medicinal herb and spice vendors. There are Korean, Vietnamese, and many Chinese restaurants to choose from.

The most unique Boston recipe would be baked Boston schrod, which should be a tail or filet section of only young codfish, usually with a buttered breadcrumb and cheddar topping. Parker House Rolls were also invented in Boston.

Boston History

Boston, Massachusetts is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It was founded in 1630 by English colonists. It’s had a rich history, and has played a pivotal role in the formation of the United States of America, with events such as the Boston Tea Party.

The city is named after Boston in Lincolnshire, England, after the city’s Puritan founders decided to change the name from Trimountaine. Because of the city’s beautiful surrounds, many choose to have their weddings in Boston, leading many to find a decent Boston wedding photographer.

Many events of the War of Independence occurred within Boston, such as the Boston Massacre, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston. Because of the city’s location on the coast, it developed a strong trade during the revolution, and onwards after the war.

Through the 1700s and 1800s, mass immigration from Ireland newly defined the city’s ethnic population, especially after the Irish Potato Famine. By the 1900s, however, many diverse populations came to Boston.

Massachusetts is also the home of many of the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities, such as MIT and Harvard.
